This is an open letter which has been sent to the Liberal Democrat’s Parliamentary Candidate Alison Bennett by Linda Gregory, Election Agent to Mid Sussex Labour Candidate Dave Rowntree.

In view of Alison’s recent campaign literature, Linda is urging her not to mislead the voting public with inappropriate statistics, and instead “to campaign in an honest and positive way”.

Dear Ms Bennett
I am writing this open letter to you in my role of Election Agent for Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate, Dave Rowntree, to express our concerns about the
misleading inferences on your recent election newsletters. You seem to imply that only the Liberal Democrats can beat the Tories in Mid Sussex. However, recent
polling evidence for the next General Election shows the Liberal Democrats are clearly in third place.

It would therefore be disingenuous of you to repeat your assertion that the next MP in the Constituency can only be a Conservative or a Lib Dem, and ‘Labour is too far behind here’. For example, the latest electionmapsUK prediction is a Labour gain in Mid Sussex, with Labour currently at 28.3% of the vote, the Conservatives at 28.2% and the Liberal Democrats trailing behind with only 24.3%.

Many local electors are very keen to ensure that we no longer have a Tory MP, and they will not thank you for trying to mislead them from voting for Labour as their Party of choice.

I hope that going forward we can rely on your integrity to campaign in an honest and positive way.
