Mid Sussex Labour Party wants to highlight the scourge of domestic violence. And if elected next year as Police and Crime Commissioner Paul Richards is committed to tackling the issue with real, practical measures.

Mandy Claiden, the local Party’s delegate to the recent Labour Women’s Conference observed that cases of domestic violence are under-reported and poorly actioned nationally. Up to 80 percent of cases are not reported to police. Then only 1 in 4 of these leads to a charge.

Paul Richards said, “We must deal with this crisis in households now. Domestic Violence is a crime that must not go unpunished. But prevention is a better long term solution. Education about the crime is vital. The subject must be covered in schools. And more training is needed for police, judges and magistrates to understand how to deal with a most personal of crimes.”
